Position: Molding Technician I

Molding Technician I

Summary of Functions

The Molding Technician I supports the production department by assisting senior level technicians and learning Toray’s quality standards. The technician will review the quality process, identify quality issues under senior supervision, and gradually work independently on allocated tasks. Key responsibilities include setting up machines, troubleshooting minor production issues, using personal protective equipment, and disposing of hazardous waste safely.

Major Duties and Requirements
  • Work alongside senior technicians to ensure machines run smoothly.
  • Follow instructions and work under close supervision to complete assigned tasks.
  • Set up and operate machines for advanced composite materials with oversight.
  • Prepare products for processing, including loading and unloading from equipment.
  • Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimensional defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using precision measuring instruments.
  • Turn valves and dials to regulate pressure, temperature, and cure times.
  • Use hand tools and shop equipment.
  • Escalate equipment and production issues by notifying Lead/Supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by Lead/Supervisor or designee.
  • Understand how to check for defects on the line.
  • Review the quality process and identify quality issues under senior supervision.
Safety
  • Follow safety procedures for PPE.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste in the proper area.
  • Maintain a clean working environment.
Experience and/or Education Requirements
  • Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 0 to 1 year of experience working with composites or in a production department.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Math and basic computer skills required (Math test given during interview).
  • Ability to complete simple conversions.
  • Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions for machine operation.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly (written and verbally) in English.
  • Able to work and communicate as part of a team.
  • Maintain work areas in a neat, orderly, and safe manner.
  • Excellent attendance; ability to work overtime, weekends and off shifts when needed.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 55 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
