The Clinical Nurse (RN) has the responsibility, accountability, and authority to deliver safe, effective, quality nursing care. Care is provided according to the specific physiologic, developmental, and psychosocial needs of the patient. The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care for all patients assigned. Utilizes therapeutic professional relationships with patients/families and interdisciplinary teams to promote, maintain, and restore health. Provides care that is consistent with the interdisciplinary plan of care.
Assesses the patient s physical and psychosocial condition on an ongoing basis. Formulates a nursing diagnosis through observation and interpretation of information obtained from the patient and others. Collaborates with the client to formulate a care plan that ensures safety, comfort, hygiene, and protection. Performs essential nursing skills and explains health treatment to the patient and family. Evaluates the effectiveness of the care plan through observation and communication with patients and health team members.
Demonstrates a working knowledge and safe use of equipment, instrumentation, and medications. Delegates tasks to care team members based on their legal scopes of practice, preparation, and capability. Acts as the client s advocate by initiating action to improve healthcare or to change decisions against the client s interests. Provides culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards. Coordinates patient care activities with nurses, physicians, allied health professionals, and ancillary care team members.
Utilizes effective communication skills to facilitate safe patient handoffs. Documents nursing care per hospital policies. Utilizes manual and automated information systems to improve efficiency and productivity. Accountable to meet or exceed unit and organizational goals for patient satisfaction. Contributes to a positive patient care experience through individual interactions. Accountable to understand the impact of personal behaviors on patient experience. Investigates compliments and complaints, providing information to management as needed.
