At NRF, an engineer of radiological work develops the engineering controls (radiological, environmental, safety and industrial hygiene), work procedures and supporting documents necessary for performing work on, testing of, or handling radioactive and/or nuclear material. The engineer provides engineering support as work is executed to ensure compliance with engineered work products, including any updates or changes needed for work execution procedures.
The Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) is seeking an engineer (mechanical, chemical, nuclear, or electrical) to support the Dry Storage of spent nuclear material. Work may include improving production processes, training operators, writing and peer reviewing procedures, designing or procuring equipment, troubleshooting equipment problems, and other supporting work for unique and complex projects.
Dry Storage Engineering work at NRF is unique, challenging, and provides many opportunities for growth and development. A high level of personal ownership over assigned equipment and processes is expected, and work has a high level of importance to the Naval Nuclear Laboratory mission and visibility.
The Dry Storage Engineers primary work location is at the NRF site but will have the option to use the Idaho Falls Energy Drive building when not needed on site at NRF.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill- Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field
