Senior Director, Philanthropy Communications (M2)
Save the Children US is seeking a Senior Director, Philanthropy Communications to lead private sector support through high-quality content and communications strategy. This role is part of the Marketing & Growth Operations team and will oversee the communications pillar, collaborating across fundraising, brand, marketing, and program teams.
LocationHybrid – Washington DC, Fairfield, CT, or Lexington, KY office locations.
What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)- Optimize private fundraising through the ongoing development of creative content for donors and prospects (40%). Manage the editorial production calendar, set tone and style for marketing & growth communications, modernize donor communications, assess impact, maintain industry awareness, provide creative oversight on content for high-level donors, and collaborate with global colleagues.
- Lead content development for international/domestic emergency responses and fragile settings in partnership with the Philanthropy Operations Humanitarian Partnerships team (40%). Serve as communications focal point for private humanitarian fundraising, develop communications plans, prepare talking points and crisis briefings, identify content gaps, and develop custom proposals.
- Team management (20%). Oversee a team of communication staff, hire external consultants, act as a resource, train, develop, coach, lead, and supervise staff.
The Role
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, plus at least 7 years of relevant experience.
- Experience in communications and/or new business development at a nonprofit organization.
- Prior experience in international development, preferably active engagement in emergency response/humanitarian environments.
- Excellent communicator who can distill information for private audiences and fundraisers.
- Strategic thinker, able to mobilize support across large-scale, multi‑discipline functions.
- Inclusive and confident leader, adaptable to fast‑moving environments and constant change.
- Willingness to work out of conventional office hours during emergencies.
- Professional proficiency in MS Office suite.
- Professional proficiency in spoken and written English.
Save the Children US offers the following salary ranges, dependent on candidate location:
- Geo 1 – NY Metro, DC, and other high‑cost locations:
Target salary $119,425–$133,475 base. - Geo 2 – US average cost locations:
Target salary $107,525–$120,175 base. - Geo 3 – US lower cost locations:
Target salary $96,050–$107,350 base.
