The NC Department of Adult Correction continuously recruits for Licensed Practical Nurse positions and will accept applications regardless of whether there is a current vacancy. Your application for this posting will remain on file for 365 days and will be screened for vacancies as they occur.

Position is a Licensed Practical Nurse providing routine care and treatment of patients, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, within a state correctional facility. Responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients, within the scope of practice.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to the following duties:
  • Screening, observing and assessing patients.
  • Providing basic wound care and personal care to patients.
  • Delivering routine respiratory therapy and other treatments, catheter and colostomy care, collecting vital signs and specimens, preparing and administering medications, administering/interpreting TB skin tests.
  • Observing and recording pertinent patient information.
  • Responding to emergencies.
  • Assisting the Registered Nurse and Physician.
This is a statewide job posting with a variation of shift assignments according to facility; therefore, the availability of specific shifts will be discussed during the interview process. Applicants must pass a background check to be eligible for this job. As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025.

The new salary range will be $39864– $59797. Note to Current State Employees:

State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

  • Licensed to practice as a Practical Nurse in the state of North Carolina.

Must be licensed to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in North Carolina or in participating Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. If possessing a single state LPN license from a state other than North Carolina, MUST apply and receive at a minimum a “Temporary License” to practice in NC prior to hire date.
