Lutron is seeking an inquisitive Senior Design Researcher to join our UX team out of our engineering office in Philadelphia, PA. As a Senior Design Researcher at Lutron, you will champion research initiatives that bridge the physical and digital landscapes and lead to cutting-edge solutions through collaboration, curiosity, and thoughtful exploration.
You will join a diverse and creative group of researchers, interaction designers, and visual designers who share a passion for human‑centric design. Collaborating with teams across engineering, product management, marketing, operations, sales and more, you will investigate and map customer personas and journeys uncovering needs and opportunities. You will work collaboratively to imagine, validate, and measure innovations for Lutron’s customers, designing for a variety of platforms, devices, and services all while exploring new technologies.

Since our invention of the rotary dimmer in 1959, we have become the world leader in smart lighting controls and automated shades, providing IoT products for millions of homes and buildings, including some of the most prestigious architecture around the world.
Responsibilities- Crafting and executing generative and evaluative research studies across a variety of methodologies.
- Leading research efforts by partnering with product owners, engineers, and designers throughout every phase of a project— from strategy and recruitment to test execution, synthesis, impactful storytelling of results, and application of insights through brainstorms and recommendations.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to align on project goals, success metrics, and deliverables, ensuring the integration of insights that drive results.
- Teaming up with designers and product owners to brainstorm, test, and apply research findings for meaningful solutions and innovations.
- Shaping the future of design research at Lutron by developing best practices, enhancing infrastructure, and championing the value of user‑centered research.
- Mentoring junior researchers to ignite their growth and inspire excellence in the field.
- Master’s degree in Human‑Computer Interaction, Information Science, Anthropology, Marketing, Psychology, or related field.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher for all degrees earned.
- 5+ years of proven industry experience conducting research, ideally in a B2B environment.
- A history of leading projects in an agile setting, managing timelines, delegating tasks, and collaborating across functions.
- Proficiency in a wide array of research methods such as contextual inquiry, interviews, surveys, tree tests, card sorts, diary studies, wizard‑of‑oz, field studies, task analysis, evaluative research, heuristics, and more.
- Exceptional skills in analysis, synthesis and delivering insights that make a difference.
