Head Lifeguard - Fairfield Y

The Fairfield Yis looking for a Head Lifeguard to join our team and help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for our community. As a leader in our aquatics department, you will provide supervision for lifeguards, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and support high-quality, member-focused aquatic programs. This role requires strong leadership, a commitment to safety, and a passion for fostering a positive and inclusive experience for all members.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise and support a team of lifeguards, ensuring adherence to safety policies and procedures.
• Perform all lifeguard duties, including water surveillance, rescues, and first aid as necessary.
• Conduct in-service training for staff on CPR, first aid, and water rescue techniques.
• Assist with scheduling lifeguard shifts and ensuring proper pool coverage.
• Monitor pool chemical levels and respond accordingly.
• Act as an ambassador for YMCA aquatics programs, engaging with members and promoting a positive environment.
• Enforce YMCA policies, including child abuse prevention measures.
• Maintain physical presence on the pool deck, remaining alert and ready to respond to emergencies.

• Minimum 18 years old with at least two years of lifeguard experience.
• Current Lifeguard Certification (YMCA, Red Cross, or equivalent).
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Oxygen Administration, and First Aid Certifications (must be maintained).
• Ability to pass a swimming and physical skills test annually.
• Strong communication skills to interact with staff, members, and leadership.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
• Physically capable of performing lifeguard duties, including prolonged periods in the water and lifting up to 25 pounds.
