The Senior Estimator position is the third level in our Estimating track. This position will be responsible for creating and managing estimates and jobs in the residential, commercial, and industrial lines of business. It will maintain client relations, develop quality and competitive estimates using Xactimate software, manage work through completion, review budgets, and communicate progress with clients and management.
Responsibilities- Create accurate scopes with few over‑under scopes.
- Create accurate floor plans and multi‑level/roof sketches in Xactimate Sketch.
- Have working knowledge of applicable building codes.
- Adhere to acceptable budgets and address overages as they present themselves.
- Use the BELFOR naming convention for estimates, revised estimates, proposals, change orders, etc.
- Maintain a construction schedule and work with trades and management to ensure work is completed on time; identify and present solutions when additional resources are needed.
- Demonstrate proficiency with source removal, decontamination, mitigation, containment, ventilation, contents and deodorization techniques.
- Be proficient with investigative demolition, controlled demolition, decontamination structure cleaning and deodorization services.
- Participate in continued training with BELFOR University -- Basic Xactimate training as part of preparation for passing Estimator Level 2 or 3 User Certification test, with a required score of 85%.
- Independently manage own work.
- Maintain vehicle safety and maintenance inspections and keep vehicles in a clean, serviceable condition.
- Complete all accident, injury & incident reporting forms on time.
- Have strong analytical, quantitative and problem‑solving skills.
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement to establish Belfor USA Group, Inc. as world‑class in the industry.
- Comply with company and department policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards.
- Expand and maintain local area clientele in the position to refer losses. Clientele is primarily insurance adjusters but may also include community business owners, schools and municipalities;
Senior Estimator book of business is approximately $2 M–$4 M. - Serve as primary contact with owners, adjusters, and consultants.
- Develop scopes, negotiate and agree with customers.
- Use BELFOR standard formatting for estimates.
- Coordinate after‑hours emergency services as directed, including board‑ups, water damage, fire and smoke damage, and vandalism.
- Consistently identify potential site hazards (asbestos, lead paint, mold, etc.).
- Conduct oneself professionally and with courtesy at all times; be proactive in conveying information and immediately responsive to requests.
- Apply industry TPA Program standards and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Possess comprehensive understanding of customer service principles and practices.
- Work under time constraints to meet specific timelines.
- Maintain keen attention to detail and safeguard other people's property and information.
- Attend BELFOR sponsored operations and safety training courses as required.
- 3+ years’ experience in Construction, Restoration, or Contents Estimating.
- Residential estimating experience exceeding $50 000 and Commercial estimating experience up to $100 000.
- Successful completion of BELFOR Estimating Platform Level 1 and 2 user certification.
- Successful completion of Xactimate Intermediate training class.
- Experience with national rate and material invoicing.
- English literacy and fluency.
- Understanding of MSDS Data sheets and their applicability to jobs.
- Use the BELFOR Estimate Format Standards for Xactimate estimates, proposals, etc.
- Extensive customer service experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills; experience with Xactimate.
- Professional demeanor and appearance; excellent telephone skills.
- Ability to work well with others and maintain professional interaction with co‑workers and vendors.
- Frequent lifting over 50 lb unassisted.
- Sitting for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity required for keyboarding and other repetitive tasks.
- Ability to bend, crouch, or stand as necessary.
