Java Developer – Property & Casualty Industry Experience Mandatory (W2 Only)

Fairfield, Ohio – 100% Remote

Contract—12-month assignment

This Java developer role is responsible for designing and building core backend applications using the Java programming language, with a strong focus on the Spring Framework and Spring Boot. The role supports a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment focused on enterprise content and document management solutions, building mission‑critical applications that enable many applications—often built on varying platforms or technologies—to exchange data reliably and efficiently.

• Provide expert‑level guidance in Java backend and frontend development. Lead technical discussions, design sessions, and architectural decisions to ensure robustness, scalability, and performance of our software solutions.
• Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance and scalable backend services using Java and related technologies. Implement RESTful APIs, microservices, and integration with databases and third‑party systems, and legacy SOAP‑based services.
• Architect and develop cloud‑native applications using containerization and orchestration technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes.
• Collaborate with Dev Ops teams to tune CI/CD pipelines, automate deployment processes, and ensure smooth software releases.
• Enforce coding standards and best practices. Conduct thorough code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and mentor junior developers to improve code quality, consistency, maintainability and adherence to industry best practices.
• Identify and address performance bottlenecks across the application stack. Implement caching mechanisms, optimize database queries, and apply best practices for minimizing latency.
• Apply security best practices, including data encryption, authentication, and authorization, while ensuring compliance with relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Create comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, API specifications, and deployment guides.

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or an equivalent degree.

• 5+ years of backend development experience using Java.
• Strong expertise in Spring Framework and Spring Boot, including dependency injection, RESTful services, and microservices architecture.
• Hands‑on experience with Docker containerization, building, deploying, and managing containerized applications in cloud or on‑prem environments.
• Proficient in building and integrating RESTful and SOAP services, with a solid understanding of API design and integration.
• Proficient in writing, reading and optimizing SQL queries for relational databases.
• Familiarity with observability platforms & analytics (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace).
• Experience with unit and integration testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
• Basic understanding of front‑end technologies (HTML, CSS3, JavaScript, JSP, jQuery, Angular).
• Strong communication skills; ability to articulate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong time‑management and organizational abilities.
• Team‑oriented with a willingness to learn and grow.

• Enterprise Application Integration, such as designing and implementing scalable integration solutions across enterprise systems.
• Spring MVC & Spring Web Services.
• Database integration with DB2 and Microsoft SQL Server using JDBC.
• Application servers: JBoss, Tomcat or similar Java EE servers.
• Structured text formats such as XML & JSON for data exchange/serialization and server communication.
• Test‑Driven Development (TDD) with unit and integration testing.
• Servlet development.
• Front‑end integration: JSTL, Expression Language (EL), jQuery UI, custom tags and plugins.
• Operating systems:
  Linux and Windows.
• Agile tools: JIRA (Sprint based workflow & Kanban board).
