Transportation Engineer Branch Office Manager

This position reports directly to the company president.

Job Description

The Branch Office Manager will be responsible for coordinating multiple projects and staff to provide all deliverables as part of a collaborative team. Delegation of tasks to engineering/technical staff, as well as responsibility for project schedules and budgets are key facets of this role while managing the development and implementation of design deliverables. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, motivated leader with previous engineering project management experience, while possessing business and people skills.

Typical projects are transportation engineering designs which range in scope from small to multimillion-dollar projects. Services are provided to a wide range of clients that include state DOTs and other governmental agencies—municipal, county and state.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Manage the production of quality highway/roadway design plans that meet client expectations and adhere to project budgets and schedules
  • Manage detailed schedules, work plans, and day-to-day operations of the office
  • Work collaboratively with both internal and external team members including other design disciplines
  • Provide consistent project updates regarding strategy and progress to various stakeholders
  • Supervise and mentor engineers, CAD staff, and junior team members, as well as delegate tasks for project assignments, while proactively managing multiple concurrent projects under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Responsible for client/customer satisfaction and technical project execution
  • Participate in business development tasks including project pursuits, project proposal preparation and client presentation
  • Perform other job duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college/university required
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois required
  • 15+ years of experience in civil/highway design projects for state DOT, County, City and/or other municipal clients required, IDOT project experience preferred
  • 3+ years of successful project management experience on transportation projects
  • Experience with developing, negotiating and reviewing design fee proposals and contracts
  • Expert knowledge of IDOT plan development guidelines and standards
  • Familiarity with procedures, methodologies, and standards including but limited to the HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO, US Access Board guidelines
  • Proficiency in Micro Station, Geopak, InRoads, and/or Open Roads Designer (ORD) within IDOT and other agency CADD environments
  • Proficiency with Excel and other general office software
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Physical Qualifications
  • Ability to sit and use a computer for extended periods
  • Visual focus for electronic documents and design software
