Regulatory Compliance Specialist, Architect / Sr. Architect, Environmental & Urban Planning
I’m recruiting a Design Manager for a well-established housing contractor delivering high-quality, energy-efficient affordable homes across Scotland.
This is a genuinely influential role for someone who enjoys taking ownership of the design process and turning ambitious proposals into practical, buildable developments. You’ll work across projects from pre-construction through to completion, coordinating internal teams, consultants, clients and delivery partners to keep design information accurate, compliant and moving at the pace required on site.
The business works closely with local authorities and registered social landlords, creating homes that respond to local need while achieving the right balance between quality, sustainability, value and programme. With a strong pipeline of work and a growing focus on standardised, efficient housing solutions, this is an excellent time to join the team.
As Design Manager, you’ll lead the coordination and management of design activity across multiple residential developments. You’ll review drawings and specifications, manage design programmes, chair meetings and ensure consultants provide the right information at the right time. You’ll identify potential design risks early, challenge proposals constructively and work closely with commercial and operational colleagues to prevent delays, unnecessary cost or problems during construction.
You’ll also support projects through planning, building warrant and technical approvals, maintaining strong relationships with external consultants, statutory authorities and clients. Once work starts on site, you’ll remain involved, responding to technical queries and helping the project team resolve design issues quickly and sensibly.
I’m looking for someone with relevant experience gained within house building, residential construction or a main contractor environment. You may already be working as a Design Manager, or you could be an experienced Design Coordinator, Architect, Architectural Technologist or Engineer ready to take the next step.
You’ll need a solid understanding of residential design, construction methods and current building regulations. Just as importantly, you’ll be organised, commercially aware and comfortable bringing different people together. This role will suit someone who can see the detail without losing sight of the bigger picture, asks the right questions and takes responsibility for getting decisions made.
Experience of affordable housing, timber frame construction, standard house types or public-sector clients would be useful, although it is not essential if your wider residential experience is strong.
The successful candidate will join a supportive, experienced team within a business that can offer stability, varied projects and genuine scope for progression. You’ll have the opportunity to influence how developments are designed and delivered, while contributing to homes and communities that provide clear, lasting value.
If you’re a Design Manager looking for a role where your input will be heard, or you’re ready to step up from a senior coordination position, I’d be keen to speak with you.
Please get in touch with me for a confidential conversation about the opportunity, the team and what the next step could look like for you.
