Summary
Administration of Respiratory Care to Inpatient and Outpatient populations at Brown University Health. The role model the organization’s values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence while applying core Success Factors such as Trust, Patient and Community Focus, and Collaboration.
Responsibilities- Perform all therapeutic treatments in a complete and timely manner.
- Perform arterial blood gas (ABG) drawing and analysis, pleural pH, and venous pH efficiently and safely.
- Conduct pulmonary function testing and Six Minute Walk test efficiently, safely, and as ordered.
- Educate patients about the method and necessity of respiratory treatments to assure therapeutic outcomes.
- Maintain equipment in a functional and sanitary condition to provide effective and safe care.
- Operate and maintain mechanical ventilators and airway management techniques including placement of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) and endotracheal intubation using direct and video visualization techniques.
- Respond to emergency situations immediately in a calm and professional manner and ensure adequate ventilation during cardiopulmonary resuscitation or other respiratory crisis.
- Report to the oncoming shift concisely and completely, incorporating all appropriate events and observations into the patient’s record in a timely manner.
- Suggest appropriate changes in respiratory care to nurses and physicians as patient’s respiratory status changes.
- Manage time and resources to complete work assignments within an acceptable time frame.
- Ongoing development of work skills through in-services, formal educational programs, and on-the-job training.
- Attendance and participation in staff meetings, in-services, and review of documentation as required.
- Assistance in orientation of others and active participation in mentoring.
- Analytical and decision-making functions performed with minimal supervision.
- Understanding of relative hospital and all-departmental policies and procedures including safety issues.
- Cooperative interactions with courtesy, respect, and compassion.
- Patient when responding to questions and answering questions appropriately.
- Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.
- Strives to prevent/resolve customer concerns to the customer’s satisfaction.
- Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
- License in Respiratory Care by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
- BLS Certification.
- Preferred:
Registration by the National Board of Respiratory Care and BS in Respiratory Care or related field. - Preferred: ACLS and NPR.
$34.61-$50.90
