Job Description
Amentum is seeking an Aircraft Mechanic Ordnance - VMG to perform a variety of duties on Marine Corps/Navy aircraft. The role includes inspecting ammunition, testing aircraft systems, performing preventive maintenance, loading and fusing ordnance, and arming/de‑arming aircraft.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on ordnance, armament systems, and related equipment.
- Maintain and repair aircraft armament weapons systems, fire warning/extinguishing systems, and support equipment.
- Employ appropriate safety precautions, security procedures, and record‑keeping techniques for ordnance.
- Operate and perform operators’ maintenance on armament weapons support equipment and aircraft armament equipment.
- Load and unload airborne weapons, reconfigure racks, launchers, adapters, and conduct functional tests of aircraft weapons release and control systems.
- Remove, maintain, service, install, and load aircraft guns.
- Arms and de‑arms aircraft.
- Conduct functional tests of racks, launchers, adapters, and electrical components, and maintain aircraft armament circuits in operational status.
- Configure or reconfigure assigned aircraft for carriage of any aviation ammunition within the aircraft’s capability.
- Identify munitions by type, nomenclature, and explosive hazard, and execute appropriate emergency response procedures.
- Transport explosives utilizing assigned handling and transportation equipment.
- Conduct ammunition inventories and maintain stock records of lots/serial numbers.
- Comply with all current sections of COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790.2 series applicable to aircraft maintenance and ALSS.
- Work with technical publications, NAMP, and NALCOMIS aircraft maintenance applications.
- Perform other job‑related duties as may be assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of specialized courses in aircraft structural repair.
- Four years of actual and recent experience in the type of aircraft being serviced.
- Must meet the criteria to be qualified and certified as per OPNAVINST 8023.
- Proficiency in reading micro‑readings and small‑scale measurements.
- Strong verbal communication and auditory detection skills.
- Ability to distinguish color and judge three‑dimensional depth.
- May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
- Must obtain appropriate support equipment and/or material handling licensing upon initial unit assignment.
- Maintain any company/government required certification, qualification, licensing, or clearance.
- Meet the medical requirements for Explosive Handlers and Explosive Vehicle Operators contained in NAVMED P‑117.
- Will be required to perform off‑site service on assigned detachments.
- Previous Military must provide member 4 DD214 with Honorable Discharge.
- Experience working in an aircraft maintenance hangar or outside environment.
- May be required to respond to extreme weather conditions and rudimentary infrastructure.
- May be exposed to extreme noise from turbine and jet engine aircraft.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles; may be exposed to electrical shock hazards or work near moving mechanical parts, vehicles, or aircraft.
- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.
- Must be able to climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands.
- Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Completed CNATT AO (A)(C) Course.
- Experience on Naval/Marine Corp aircraft.
