Position: MWR Recreation Assistant (Liberty)

Summary

Performs a variety of duties in support of the Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) Community Recreation program that may include special events, recreation information/resources, command events, visiting ships or fleet support, community events, trips, tours, outings, party and picnic rental equipment, resale tickets, recreational green space management, bowling, library, grab‑n‑go, movies, and outdoor recreation.

Duties

Provides customer service, information, and support for Community Recreation programs and activities. Responsibilities include checking patron eligibility, providing information about activities, opening and closing facilities, ordering and restocking supplies, preparing snack bar menu items, assisting with day‑to‑day administration of multiple programs, submitting event after‑action reports, collecting patronage data, and entering program data. Provides recreation experiences related to leisure skill sets in the form of day and weekend trips and administers traditional and non‑traditional workshops, clinics and events.

Conducts inventory, maintains equipment accountability, ensures rental forms are completed, and follows reservation procedures. Processes customer internet registrations, maintains accuracy of daily sales transactions, handles fees and Point of Sales operations, and performs equipment inventory. Supports event set‑up and break‑down, initiates maintenance trouble calls, adheres to sanitation requirements, researches and provides information on recreational opportunities, helps develop proposals and agreements, performs community outreach, promotes facilities and events, maintains electronic and multimedia support tools, schedules entertainment and promotion, assists in planning, coordinating, publicizing, marketing and execution of MWR programs and special events, supports EEO principles, helps recruit, train and schedule staff, and performs other administrative duties.

Requirements
  • Must successfully pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, without a fixed schedule. Administrative work is performed in a normal office setting.
  • Irregular working hours may be required, including early shift, late shift, evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.
  • May have to obtain and maintain certification within 90 days of hire:
    Emergency First Responder or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, Food Handlers and/or C.A.R.E (Controlling Alcohol Risks Effectively).
  • Protective clothing and equipment may be required as situations warrant.
Qualifications

Combination of experience related to customer service and or recreation activity‑based functions. Ability to organize, plan, administer special events and entertainment activities. Works independently, makes sound decisions, and communicates effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of organizational principles and procedures used in leisure activities. Knowledge of Navy MWR mission and scope of Community Recreation activities. Strong customer service skills. Maintains records, compiles data for reports, performs research on recreation topics, follows oral and written instructions.

Knowledge of computers, office procedures and print production.

Education

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
