The Human Resources Specialist is a full-time, regular position providing administrative and employee support functions for the Human Resources Department. Working in our small Human Resources department, you would be assigned a variety of responsibilities in support of the county's 300 employees and outside job applicants. This position will have duties related to recruitment, selection and employee training. In addition, you would handle many day-to-day transactional-type duties - filing, data entry, employment benefits, new employee on-boarding, answering employee and applicant questions, and utilizing technology for the applicant tracking, online training, and employee data systems.

If you bring applied experience in areas such as recruitment and selection, FMLA, workers’ compensation, safety, payroll, or employee benefits, you’ll be well-positioned as a standout candidate.

As a full-time, regular position, the person hired would be enrolled in the Nevada PERS retirement system. In addition to the salary paid, the county contributes an additional 36.75% into PERS on the employee's behalf (value of $7.20/hour or nearly $15,000 annually). In addition, the employee will not contribute to Social Security, resulting in an additional 6% in take‑home pay (an equivalent of $1.18/hour or $2,400 annually).

The county also pays 100% for employee‑only health insurance premiums (equivalent to $6.15/hour or $12,800 annually). An employee in this position will also receive full accruals of vacation leave (8 hours per month) and sick leave (10 hours per month), in addition to 8 hours for pay for 11 paid holidays.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for performing administrative support to the Human Resources Department and providing employee support to all employees.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

Positions in this class require a definable body of administrative and employee support knowledge and skills pertaining to human resources functions. This class is an experienced office administrative class. This class is distinguished from other administrative classifications by its specialization in support of human resources activities and processes.

  • Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
  • Performs specialized office support work, which requires the exercise of independent judgment, the application of technical skills, and a knowledge of detailed or specialized activities related to the human resources department.
  • On-boards new employees, including presentation of all new-hire information and completion of all benefits enrollment and organization‑specific requirements; ensures new employees complete all hiring requirements, including but not limited to, I‑9 forms, W‑4 forms, pre‑employment drug testing, employee policy acknowledgments; processes necessary paperwork.
  • Uses a computer to develop and manage databases and/or spreadsheet files and to develop special report formats; interfaces proficiently with technology, including but not limited to, applicant tracking systems, employee data systems, electronic onboarding, and online benefits portals.
  • Researches and assembles information from a variety of sources for the completion of forms or the preparation of reports; gathers, compiles and organizes employment, salary and other statistical or personnel data; calculates, analyzes and summarizes statistical data.
