Position Summary
A combined full‑time Transportation Specialist – CART and Meals on Wheels Driver – responsible for delivering nutritious meals to homebound seniors, providing safe transportation to medical and essential appointments, and completing routine vehicle inspections and maintenance. The role operates Monday through Friday in Churchill County, Nevada.
Essential Functions- Maintain reliable, punctual attendance and adhere to the scheduled route or on‑call duties.
- Inspect the vehicle for cleanliness and operational condition, completing inspection paperwork and reporting needed repairs.
- Assist with packing and transporting meals to isolated or homebound seniors, ensuring safe delivery and proper temperature compliance.
- Drive to and from various locations, adjusting schedules as required, and maintain a driver log with client information when necessary.
- Communicate client welfare concerns and service issues to the Senior Center Manager.
- Wash, clean, fuel, and care for the interior of the vehicle.
- Participate in in‑service training to update skills and improve client service techniques.
- Contribute to the efficiency and effectiveness of the division by offering suggestions and working collaboratively with the team.
- Represent the County with dignity, integrity, and cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
- Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED plus one (1) year of customer service experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge: Missouri state motor vehicle operating laws, food safety and handling principles, county geography, standard office procedures, effective oral and written communication, and techniques for interacting with diverse clients.
- Skills: Ability to work independently, maintain accurate records, follow oral and written instructions, drive skillfully and safely, establish and maintain effective working relationships, and assist disabled individuals.
- Valid Nevada driver’s license.
- Nevadadriver’s License.
- First Aid, CPR, and elder abuse training or certification within three (3) months of employment.
• Mobility required for transportation duties and vehicle operation.
• Strength to lift up to 50 pounds and stamina to sit for extended periods.
• Vision and hearing sufficient for reading printed materials and communicating.
• Exposure to travel, bodily fluids, fumes, gases, noise, and chemicals in the course of duties.
- Employment contingent upon maintaining all required licenses and certificates in active status without suspension or revocation.
- Background investigation and, if applicable, drug/alcohol screening are required for safety‑sensitive positions.
- Participation in E‑Verify and completion of Form I‑9 is mandatory prior to employment.
A full‑time employee is enrolled in the Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) with 36.75% county contribution; 100% health insurance premiums are paid on the employee’s behalf. Sick and vacation leave accrue at standard rates, with additional leave after 5, 10, 15, and 25 years of service. The position is subject to Nevada state income tax exemption and provides eligibility for 12 paid holidays and one floating holiday per year.
Part‑time employees do not receive benefits.
Full‑time, regular position. Part‑time status requires completion of at least 1,040 hours in a fiscal year to qualify for PERS.
