Job Description:

Reports to firm’s General Counsel. Provide oversight of and support for the firm’s New Business and Conflicts department. Key responsibilities include advising the Firm's lawyers on their professional responsibilities, with a particular focus on conflicts of interest, new matter opening, and ethics questions. At the direction of General Counsel, provide advice to the firm on matters relating to ethics, compliance, claims, and risk management.

Experience

Required:

• Education:
  
  Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
• Bar Admission:
  Active member in good standing with a state bar (MD/DC/VA).
• Experience:
  
  5-11 years of legal experience.
• Leadership:
  Proven track record of managing legal teams and complex legal projects.
• Communication:
  Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with various stakeholders. Able to articulate complex legal concepts clearly to legal and non‑legal audiences. Strong skills in drafting legal documents and negotiating complex agreements.
• Management:
  Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ethics:
  High ethical standards and integrity, and able to handle confidential and sensitive information.

At the direction of the General Counsel, assist with:

• Advising key stakeholders concerning attorney ethics issues identified by New Business and Conflicts department and resolving new matter conflicts of interest issues.
• Providing advice to attorneys in connection with engagement letters, conflicts waivers, ethical screens, and firm policies.
• Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of contracts and other legal agreements.
• Assisting with management of litigation, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes.
• Participating in oversight of the firm’s insurance program.
• Ensuring the firm's compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
• Conducting legal research and analysis to support decision‑making on complex legal issues.

Base Compensation: $200,000 / year. The Deputy General Counsel is not required to maintain an active law practice and may sit in our Maryland or Washington, DC offices.
