Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Federal Litigation Attorney to manage and lead a caseload of complex immigration matters in U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in federal civil litigation, excellent legal research and writing abilities, and a deep commitment to immigrant rights. This role is crucial to the firm's mission of challenging unlawful and unreasonable agency decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Federal Litigation Management:
    Manage a federal caseload, including cases under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), Mandamus Act, Habeas Corpus petitions, and litigation against government agencies (e.g., USCIS, ICE, CBP, DOL) in U.S. District Courts and Courts of Appeals.
  • Case Strategy:
    Develop and execute creative, high‑level litigation strategies for challenging denials, unreasonable delays, and other adverse immigration agency actions.
  • Legal Writing & Drafting:
    Draft and file pleadings, complaints, motions for summary judgment, temporary restraining orders, preliminary injunctions, writs, and appellate briefs.
  • Court Appearances:
    Represent clients and the firm at court hearings, oral arguments, and settlement conferences in federal venues.
  • Administrative Support:
    Provide expert legal analysis and support to attorneys handling administrative‑level cases (before EOIR, USCIS, etc.), including drafting internal opinion memos and strategic guidance for cases that may lead to federal court.
  • Research & Analysis:
    Conduct comprehensive legal research on complex and evolving issues of federal administrative law, constitutional law, and crimmigration law.
  • Client Communication:
    Clearly and compassionately communicate with clients regarding their federal case status, strategy, risks, and potential outcomes.
  • Practice Development:
    Stay current on all relevant federal court precedent, rules, and policy changes affecting immigration litigation.
Required Qualifications
  • J.D. from a U.S.

    -accredited law school.
  • Admission to any state bar or the District of Columbia.
  • Admission to practice before one or more U.S. District Courts and/or U.S. Courts of Appeals.
  • Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience practicing in federal court, with significant experience in civil litigation, preferably involving administrative law or immigration.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed or eligible to practice in Maryland or Virginia.
  • Prior experience specifically in immigration‑related federal litigation (Mandamus, APA, Habeas).
  • Experience with impact litigation.
  • Fluency in Spanish (oral and written).
