Senior Maintenance Worker

Under general supervision, performs various semi-skilled maintenance and/or construction tasks and performs related work as required. Participates in the work of an assigned park maintenance crew, performing semiskilled and unskilled tasks relating to grounds maintenance and facility repairs. May lead a crew in the absence of the maintenance crew chief. Performs maintenance on park facilities, e.g., sport courts, picnic areas, playgrounds, amphitheaters, trails, restrooms, parking lots, signs,, etc.

Duties include mowing, snow removal, and other grounds maintenance tasks. Removes litter and performs rough carpentry, light construction, minor repairs, and painting of facilities, as necessary. Operates a tractor/bucket loader with attachments, utility vehicles, mowers, and other equipment. Uses gas powered equipment such as trimmer, blower, and chainsaw. Inspects and drives a truck with and without a trailer combination to haul equipment and materials.

Informs supervisor of conditions requiring special attention. Maintains tools and equipment in good working order. Completes computerized daily work reports. Performs related duties as required.

• Performs various semi-skilled tasks, to include specialized concrete and asphalt work (e.g., setting forms, finishing, etc.);
• General maintenance and repair of machinery;
• Inspects and approves work of Maintenance Workers;
• Provides guidance and training to Maintenance Workers;
• Ensures that all white goods are properly processed prior to recycling;
• May lead a crew in absence of Maintenance Crew Chief;
• Inspects, and reviews work of a crew engaged in a variety of basic maintenance, construction and grounds keeping activities;
• May Lead grass cutting, sodding, seeding, and fertilizing activities;
• Leads playground equipment maintenance;
• Completes daily and preventive maintenance reports;
• Engages in safe working practices and complies with safety programs and guidelines;

• Working knowledge of small engine equipment;
• Knowledge of single axle dump truck, trailer, utility bucket truck, snow plow, spreader, tank truck, water truck and pickup truck;
• Working knowledge of and the ability to use methods, tools and equipment commonly used in maintenance, construction, and grounds keeping activities;
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices;
• Basic knowledge of computers;
• Ability to lead other employees in a variety of activities, maintain records, and prepare reports;
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions;
• Ability to perform activities requiring manual dexterity;
• Ability to perform basic data entry;
• Ability to work outside with regular exposure to severe weather, noxious fumes, high levels of dust, etc.;
• Ability to perform medium to heavy manual labor;
• Ability to comprehend and comply to safety practices;
• Ability to maintain effective relationships with customers, employees and supervisors.

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to completion of the tenth grade; and two years of experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field.

Driver's license (required)
Registered Pesticide Technician Required Within 6 months

Ability to climb on and off equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to operate motor vehicles. Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time. Ability to work in inclement weather and traverse uneven terrain. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
