Residential Support Specialist

FACETS is excited to hire multiple full‑time Residential Support Specialists (morning, evening, and overnight shifts) for Bailey’s Community Shelter, a 52‑bed program serving single adults experiencing homelessness. The role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting residents toward stability and independence.

Position Summary

Residential Support Specialists provide 24/7 direct support and guidance to individuals residing in the shelter. Responsibilities include assisting residents with daily needs, addressing immediate concerns, monitoring compliance with shelter rules, medication monitoring, and crisis intervention; maintaining safety and security; and ensuring smooth program operations at all times.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Manage the front desk and provide direct supervision and assistance to clients, enforcing shelter rules and monitoring client activities.
  • Provide staff coverage and ensure the safety and security of residents and the program, responding to crises and facilitating appropriate interventions.
  • Assist the case manager in developing, implementing, and monitoring residents’ individual service plans to support progress toward housing stability and personal goals.
  • Collaborate with other staff to meet residents’ needs, including supportive counseling, life skills training, or transportation as needed.
  • Conduct internal and external walkthroughs of the facility on an hourly schedule or as needed, reporting maintenance, health, fire, or safety concerns.
  • Document residents’ behavior and progress in HMIS, ensuring accurate, timely, and confidential record‑keeping in accordance with program and data quality standards.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment while maintaining the highest professional standards in all interactions and responsibilities.
  • Represent FACETS in the community in accordance with Agency Mission, Vision, and Code of Ethics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current social services, homelessness, housing issues, and methods/approaches to addressing housing concerns.
  • Knowledge of tenants’ rights and responsibilities and "strengths‑based" case management.
  • Clear and concise communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to lift items weighing 10–50 pounds.
  • Must pass criminal background checks.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, good driving record, and personal car insurance.
  • Ability to drive a 15‑passenger van.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds at a time.
  • Occasional meetings at other FACETS office locations within Fairfax County, including three annual organization‑wide fundraising events each year.
Salary

Hourly: $18.00 – $20.00 per hour.
