Position Overview

We are seeking a Project Engineer to support the planning and execution of civil construction and infrastructure projects. This individual will work closely with Project Managers, Estimators, field leadership, subcontractors, and vendors to help projects stay organized, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has experience in civil or utility construction and is comfortable working with drawings, takeoffs, estimates, submittals, change orders, schedules, and project documentation. This role is well suited for someone who is highly organized, proactive, technically minded, and interested in continuing to grow toward project management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support Project Managers and Estimators throughout the estimating, preconstruction, and project execution process.
  • Review plans, specifications, drawings, and other project documentation to understand scope and requirements.
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and assist with developing project estimates.
  • Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors.
  • Prepare and track RFQs, purchase orders, subcontracts, submittals, and related project documentation.
  • Assist with project buyout and procurement of materials and services.
  • Maintain organized project files, logs, reports, and documentation.
  • Track RFIs, submittals, change orders, quantities, costs, and other project-related items.
  • Assist with developing and maintaining project schedules.
  • Coordinate with field teams, vendors, subcontractors, and internal operations to support daily project needs.
  • Assist with monthly project reporting, cost tracking, forecasting, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Help identify potential project risks, schedule issues, or cost concerns and communicate them to project leadership.
  • Support compliance with project specifications, safety requirements, and quality standards.
  • Utilize construction drawings and AutoCAD or similar tools to assist with project planning and field coordination.
  • Take ownership of assigned projects or portions of larger projects as experience progresses.
Qualifications
  • Experience supporting civil construction, infrastructure, utility, site development, or similar projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Engineering, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent hands-on construction experience will also be considered.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, blueprints, and project documentation.
  • Understanding of estimating, quantity takeoffs, project costs, and construction administration.
  • Experience with projects involving utilities, underground piping, drainage, grading, paving, concrete, or roadway work is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and construction estimating or project management software is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented and proactive, with the ability to anticipate project needs rather than wait for direction.
Additional Requirements
  • Upon a conditional offer of employment, the position requires a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work collaboratively between office and field teams.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification is preferred or must be obtainable.
  • Construction safety certifications related to excavation, trenching, fall protection, or First Aid/CPR are a plus.
