The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) is now accepting applications for its Summer Student Fellowship 2026
. This is a fully funded opportunity designed to provide undergraduates with hands‑on experience in ocean sciences, oceanographic engineering, and marine policy
.
The WHOI Summer Student Fellowship program is a summer research fellowship for undergraduates entering their final year of study. The program offers students the chance to gain practical experience in the fields of:
- Ocean sciences
- Oceanographic engineering
- Marine policy
Participants in the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship will receive the following benefits:
- Weekly stipend: $721
- Travel allowance: $720
- Housing provided by the institution
- Participation in seminars, lecture series, and workshops (e.g., Ethics in Science)
- Networking opportunities within the Woods Hole scientific community
To be eligible for the fellowship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Must be undergraduates (not yet graduated)
- International students are welcome (visa support required)
- Preference is given to science/engineering majors with an interest in ocean sciences
- Applicants from underrepresented groups in ocean sciences are encouraged to apply
- Special rules apply for UK 3-year and 5-year programs
