Registered Nurse (RN) – Cape Cod Healthcare – Falmouth, MA

. This position is for an experienced Registered Nurse responsible for direct nursing care and oversight of nursing assistants in a long‑term care facility.

Purpose of Position
:
Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise the day‑to‑day nursing activities performed by nursing assistants, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local standards and the highest quality of care.

Schedule Details
: 32 hrs per week, rotating days/evenings (7 a‑3 p or 3 p‑11 p), overnight/ weekend shifts, rotating holidays. Sign‑on bonus available.

Responsibilities
  • Direct the day‑to‑day functions of nursing assistants in accordance with current regulations and guidelines.
  • Complete all administrative functions as outlined in the job description.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments using approved nursing techniques.
  • Ensure medication safety, preventing cross‑administration between residents.
  • Maintain adequate floor stock of medications, supplies, and equipment; report needs to the Nurse Supervisor.
  • Prepare rooms for new admissions and greet newly admitted residents.
  • Escort residents to their rooms and participate in their orientation to the facility.
  • Collaborate with physicians, make rounds as necessary, and consult on resident care.
  • Participate in the development, maintenance, and implementation of the quality assurance program for nursing services.
  • Assist with facility surveys and inspections by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans; participate in nursing components of discharge planning.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Maintain the Daily Census Report and submit it to the Business Office.
  • Perform charting, reporting, and documentation tasks accurately and promptly.
  • Encourage attending physicians to review and sign treatment plans and progress notes.
  • Receive and record telephone orders from physicians; transcribe orders into resident charts.
  • Chart nursing notes descriptively, reflecting care provided and resident responses.
  • Readily prepare equipment and aid physicians during treatments and examinations.
  • Observe patients, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify supervisors or physicians as necessary.
  • Take vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure) and assess deviations from normal.
  • Lead a group of personnel rendering nursing care to multiple patients when required.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information, including protected health information, and report any incidents of unauthorized disclosure.
  • Perform other nursing duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
  • Minimum nursing degree from an accredited college or university or graduate of an approved RN program.
  • Current, unencumbered, active RN license in Massachusetts.
  • BLS / CPR and AED Program certification.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
  • Knowledge of nursing and medical practices relevant to age‑related patient needs.
  • Team‑player with strong teamwork skills.
  • Independent decision‑making capability when circumstances warrant.
  • Tactful interpersonal skills for dealing with personnel, residents, families, visitors, government agencies, and the public.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines governing nursing care facilities.
  • Leadership and supervisory ability; ability to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
  • Planning, organizing, developing, implementing, and interpreting programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for quality care.
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm for handling difficult residents.
  • Willingness to seek new methods and incorporate them into nursing practices.
  • Ability to communicate information about resident conditions effectively.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and meet all other physical and sensory requirements of the job.
