Assistant Quantity Surveyor
Location:
Fareham Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 DOE Bennett & Game are representing a rapidly growing solar and renewable energy contractor who are seeking an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-growth business at an important stage of its development. Backed by a £700m turnover group, the company has achieved significant growth over the past 12 months and has ambitious plans to continue scaling over the coming years.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Commercial Manager and senior stakeholders, gaining broad exposure across commercial, operational and finance functions. This is a varied role offering far more than a traditional Assistant Quantity Surveyor position, with early responsibility, hands-on mentoring and the opportunity to play a key part in developing the company's commercial processes as the business continues to grow.
The company is open to candidates from a wide range of construction backgrounds, including main contractors, specialist subcontractors, PQS consultancies, developers and house builders. Previous experience within the renewable energy sector is not required.
This role offers genuine long-term progression. As the business continues to scale, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility and develop towards a Quantity Surveyor, Commercial Manager or more senior commercial position. Assistant Quantity Surveyor Salary & Benefits Salary £35,000 - £45,000 DOE 25 to 30 days holiday plus Bank Holidays Pension scheme Bonus scheme Two years' death in service cover Critical illness cover Comprehensive in-house and external training and development Clear and structured progression opportunities within a rapidly growing business Regular team and company-wide social events Charity fundraising days Modern office facilities including a stocked kitchen, shower and gym Supportive and collaborative working environment Assistant Quantity Surveyor Job Overview Support the Commercial Manager with the commercial and financial management of live renewable energy projects Assist with job costing, cost tracking and commercial reporting across a growing project portfolio Review project costs and performance, helping to identify overspend, commercial risks and opportunities for improvement Assist with monthly cost reporting, forecasting, valuations and applications for payment Support the preparation and management of subcontract enquiries, cost comparisons, procurement and order placement Assist with the management of variations, change control and commercial records Review labour, material and subcontract costs to support accurate project costing and financial control Work closely with operational and finance teams to investigate project variances and improve commercial performance Collate project records, cost information and supporting evidence for commercial reporting and final accounts Help develop and embed improved commercial processes as the business continues to grow Take on increasing responsibility and ownership as experience and capability develop Assistant Quantity Surveyor Requirements Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Trainee Quantity Surveyor or within a similar commercial role Candidates from main contractors, specialist subcontractors, PQS consultancies, developers, house builders or similar construction environments are encouraged to apply
Experience of job costing, cost tracking, valuations, cost reporting or project financial management would be advantageous Strong commercial awareness with good numerical and analytical skills Confident using Excel and working with cost reports, financial data and project trackers Good communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with commercial, operational and finance teams Proactive, organised and ambitious, with a genuine desire to develop and progress Renewable energy experience is not required Bennett & Game Recruitment are acting as a Recruitment Agency in relation to this vacancy.
