Shape the Future of Autonomous Maritime Technology
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a growing engineering team developing next-generation Uncrewed Surface Vessels (USVs).
Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in the design, development, testing and production of innovative autonomous maritime platforms. This position offers the opportunity to take designs from concept through to deployment, working on cutting-edge technology at the forefront of the unmanned systems sector.
Key Responsibilities- Design and develop mechanical systems and subsystems for autonomous surface vessels.
- Produce detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies and engineering drawings using Solid Works.
- Select appropriate materials, components and manufacturing methods, applying DFMA principles.
- Conduct structural analysis, FEA and simulation activities to validate and optimise designs.
- Support prototyping, build activities, testing and performance evaluation.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure practical and cost-effective design solutions.
- Work with suppliers and external partners to source components and materials.
- Identify and resolve technical issues throughout the product lifecycle.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation by researching emerging technologies, materials and engineering techniques.
You will be a motivated and hands-on engineer with a passion for solving complex engineering challenges and delivering high-quality products.
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience in mechanical design of complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Strong proficiency using Solid Works or similar 3D CAD software.
- Experience conducting structural analysis, FEA and design validation activities.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes and Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience working on marine, autonomous, robotic, aerospace, defence, or vehicle-based systems.
- Exposure to prototype development, testing and production environments.
- Interest in uncrewed systems, robotics or autonomous technologies.
