Mechanical Design Engineer The Company A well-established Building Services Consultancy and Contractor is looking to appoint 2x Mechanical Design Engineers to join its growing design team, with opportunities available from either its Kettering or Fareham office. The business provides mechanical and electrical building services design, installation and commissioning, with a particular specialism in the healthcare sector. Its portfolio includes high‑end care homes, hospitals and hotels, alongside projects across the industrial, refurbishment, residential, commercial, retail, education, sport and leisure sectors.
Building services design projects typically range from £1.5m to £6m, providing the successful Mechanical Design Engineer with exposure to sizeable and technically varied projects. The business also works across low‑carbon engineering and renewable technologies, providing engineers with the opportunity to contribute to more sustainable building services solutions.
- Producing detailed mechanical building services designs
- Developing mechanical services layouts, schematics and design information
- Undertaking mechanical calculations in accordance with relevant British Standards
- Developing practical and efficient mechanical engineering solutions
- Ensuring designs meet employers' requirements, British Standards and applicable regulations
- Supporting the wider Design/Engineering team to achieve project deliverables
- Attending internal and external design team meetings
- Communicating design solutions to internal stakeholders and external clients
- Assisting with the collation and dissemination of project information
- Working closely with the Revit/CAD team to deliver coordinated design information
- Managing allocated tasks to ensure project deadlines are achieved
- Supporting sustainable and low‑carbon engineering solutions
- Attending occasional site visits and client meetings where required
- Experience with in a Building Services Consultancy, MEP Contractor or similar environment
- Previous experience producing mechanical building services designs
- HNC/HND or degree within Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline
- Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles and building services design
- Experience using CAD software
- Knowledge of relevant British Standards and regulations
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- Full UK driving licence due to occasional site visits and client meetings
- Autodesk Revit AutoCAD
- Experience across HVAC and mechanical building services systems
- Experience with in healthcare projects
- Experience working on commercial, residential or other complex building services projects
- Knowledge of low‑carbon and renewable technologies
