About the role
The Repair Technician is responsible for reviewing, diagnosing, and repairing all products that are sent in or returned, as well as carrying out complex production rework on SMT and through-hole assemblies and PCB track repairs. This role sits within the engineering team and works closely with Production and Quality, playing a key part in maintaining high product standards and supporting customers.
Key responsibilities
Inspect, diagnose, and repair returned products, production faults, and complex rework in a timely manner.
Perform high-quality electronic rework, including SMT, through-hole, and PCB track repair to IPC standards.
Work with Quality (QA) on CAPA activities, root cause analysis, and strip/survey reports.
Support production with assembly and rework of products when required.
Read and interpret complex drawings, PCB Gerber files, and work instructions.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation in line with company and quality procedures.
Liaise with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve issues and improve processes.
Skills & experience
Essential:
Subject Matter Expert in IPC-A-610 and IPC J-STD-001, or equivalent.
Strong hands-on experience in electronic rework techniques and PCB track repair.
Confident reading complex drawings, PCB Gerber files, and technical instructions.
PC literate, with experience using Microsoft Office and Gerber viewers; exposure to 3D CAD tools beneficial.
Analytical mindset with the ability to work under own initiative and solve problems logically.
Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and IT) and good time management.
Desirable:
Experience with IPC-7711/7721 rework and repair.
Background in Continuous Improvement and supporting CAPA activities.
