Accounting Clerk (Part-Time, Temporary) – Border States

OverviewThe Accounting Clerk supports day‑to‑day accounting operations including transaction processing, journal entries, account reconciliations, and month‑end activities. The role assists with reporting, audits, special projects, and maintaining process documentation, and provides hands‑on experience across multiple accounting processes.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate foundational accounting knowledge and basic financial acumen through recording transactions, processing data, and supporting standard reporting activities.
- Own the preparation of assigned value stream tasks for low‑risk, low‑complexity areas such as cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, recurring journal entries, etc., including:
- Data entry and transaction processing.
- Preparing routine and reclassification/adjustment journal entries via the Financial Accounting department’s JIRA system.
- Preparing account reconciliations and general ledger maintenance.
- Completing assigned month‑end and daily operational tasks.
- Investigating and documenting reporting variance analyses.
- Preparing reporting deliverables.
- Prepare ad‑hoc requests and analyses for assigned value stream areas.
- Support auditing and other engagement documentation and support compilation processes.
- Assist in special projects and initiatives through preparation, analysis, compilation, and presentation.
- Maintain process documentation and SOPs.
- Support consolidation, consolidation accounting, and value stream integration processes.
- Participate in team development, training, and onboarding.
- Maintain awareness of internal controls, compliance, and risk management.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or designated authority.
- Associate degree in accounting or related business field.
- Professional work experience preferred.
- Basic Excel knowledge (data entry, formulas, sorting, filtering, logical and lookup functions such as SUM, SUMIFS, IFS, XLOOKUP).
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of SAP or similar accounting systems preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication.
- Interpersonal skills with emotional intelligence.
- Entry‑level analytical skills to identify and resolve routine issues.
- Ability to work independently and under supervisory guidance.
- Organized and methodical task management.
- Efficient workload management with attention to schedules and priorities.
- Basic strategic thinking for planning initiatives.
- Excellent customer service skills.
Typical daily activities include: sitting continuously; standing and walking frequently; bending, stooping, and occasional lifting (no more than 10 lbs. per lift); repetitive motion continuously; use of a computer continuously; use of a telephone frequently.
