Project Superintendent - Traveling at Park Construction Company

Job Purpose

Superintendents are accountable for jobsite safety leadership, crew productivity, schedule performance, quality control, and overall project execution. This includes ensuring projects are constructed in strict accordance with plans, specifications, and regulatory standards. Superintendents serve as the primary jobsite leader and represent Park Construction with professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to our core values.

Project Execution & Site Management
  • Schedule subcontractors, consultants, and vendors along the critical path to ensure timely completion.
  • Participate in preconstruction planning, reviewing project schedules, budgets, traffic control, and staging requirements.
  • Lead jobsite setup including safety postings, temporary utilities, security practices, staging areas, equipment, and field office layout.
  • Open and secure the jobsite daily, ensuring readiness for operations and protection of equipment and materials.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of contract drawings, specifications, addenda, RFIs, supplemental specifications, and DOT standards.
  • Coordinate traffic control operations, lane closures, detours, flagging, and compliance with DOT requirements.
  • Perform daily quality control inspections for roadway subgrade, base course, utilities, concrete structures, and asphalt paving.
  • Ensure subcontractors fully execute and comply with their contractual scope of work.
  • Enter and verify daily production quantities, crew time, and equipment reporting using HCSS Heavy Job® or equivalent systems.
  • Walk the project daily to monitor work progress, plan upcoming activities, and identify potential conflicts.
  • Manage project punch lists and assure corrective actions are completed prior to turnover.
Safety Leadership & Compliance
  • Lead by example as the onsite safety champion, promoting and enforcing Park’s Safety Program and a safety-first culture.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, state, and federal safety standards.
  • Identify and address safety, health, and environmental violations promptly.
  • Schedule and coordinate required inspections with appropriate authorities.
DOT, Highway, and Civil Project Requirements
  • Oversee operations involving excavation, grading, embankment construction, utility installation, roadway removals, bridge/structure support work, and asphalt paving.
  • Verify material certifications, density testing, environmental controls, and adherence to DOT specifications.
  • Coordinate closely with DOT representatives, inspectors, engineers, and third‑party testers.
Field Leadership & Supervision
  • Supervise and coordinate all subcontractors, vendors, consultants, and craft employees daily.
  • Mentor, train, and develop crew members; promote succession planning for foremen and future leaders.
  • Assist in hiring and evaluating craft/trade personnel.
  • Support GPS layout, staking, and field measurement (GPS experience preferred).
Communication & Coordination
  • Conduct weekly subcontractor coordination meetings.
  • Maintain accurate daily logs documenting labor, equipment, inspections, delays, weather, and progress.
  • Communicate regularly with Project Manager and Regional Manager regarding cost impacts, schedule risks, or field issues requiring resolution.
  • Build strong relationships with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders to promote successful outcomes and future work.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Minimum 10 years of Heavy Civil or Highway construction experience
    , including DOT projects.
  • Minimum 5 years in a supervisory role (Foreman or Superintendent).
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently for extended durations throughout the Western Division.
  • Strong working knowledge of excavation, grading, roadway construction, utilities, concrete, and asphalt paving operations.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, DOT standards, and specifications.
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and coordination skills, including management of self‑performed and subcontracted work.
  • Analytical thinker with strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution abilities.
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Outlook, HCSS Heavy Job®, and project scheduling tools.
  • Strong communication skills; able to represent Park professionally and maintain effective relationships.
  • Ability to perform field layout, measurement, and verification of quantities (GPS preferred).
  • Commitment to teamwork, safety, and continuous improvement.
Certifications & Required Training
  • OSHA 30 Certification (required)
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (required)
  • Construction Stormwater Site Management certification (preferred)
  • HAZWOPER, MSHA, TWIC, USACE CQC, Operator Qualification training (preferred)
