Fargo District, Fargo, ND. Salary: $5,354 per month. Full‑time, Regular. FLSA Status:
Non‑exempt.

Role Summary

As a Mechanic III, you will repair vehicles and equipment to keep fleet trucks and DOT equipment ready for use. Your duties include diagnosing and repairing all fleet trucks and DOT equipment, installing components such as radios, safety lighting, light bars, sirens, and more.

Responsibilities
  • Automobile Repair – Troubleshoot and repair systems on cars and pickups; computerized automotive systems with complex diagnosis, electrical, transmission, differentials, driveline, clutches, heating and air conditioning, carburetors and fuel injection, brakes and antilock systems, tires, windshields, airbags, and body computers.
  • Radio Installation and Accessories – Install 2‑way radios, design wiring schematics for electrical accessories, roof antennas, safety equipment, prisoner cages, red lights, emblems, decals, and stripes. Configure switches for Game and Fish enforcement vehicles and mobile vision cameras.
  • Light and Heavy Truck Repair – Troubleshoot and repair single and tandem axle trucks; brakes, hydraulics, clutches, driveline, electrical, engines (gas and diesel), tune‑ups, transmission repairs, windshields, electronic shift automatic transmission, electronic instrument cluster, computerized diesel engines using laptop diagnostics, and antilock brake systems.
  • Heavy Equipment, Tractors & Minor Equipment Repair – Test, replace, or rebuild components; repair cooling, electrical, steering systems, brakes, gearboxes, clutches, hydraulics, gearboxes, transmissions, engines (gas and diesel), differentials, hydrostatic drive, air brakes, and electronic instrument clusters.
  • Shop Maintenance and Recordkeeping – Maintain tools and shop area; fill out time sheets accurately; use Fleet Focus system; check and report accident hazards.
Qualifications
  • Class A or B Driver License.
  • Completed a two‑year curriculum in automotive or diesel/industrial equipment technology.
  • Two years of work experience performing duties similar in type and complexity.
  • Alternative:
    Completion of a three‑year master technology program and one year of work experience.
  • Work experience can substitute for the educational requirement as described.

Successful applicant must provide required tools on the date of hire. List of required tools is available from any district office.

Position may require work after hours, on weekends, and holidays during road and weather emergencies; demonstrate ability to function around vehicular and maintenance traffic. Position requires knowledge of and ability to weld, and may require snow plowing. Safety training will be provided.

As determined by the district engineer or division director, employees may be required to report to work within 30 minutes in emergency situations. Employees with residence outside the 30‑minute requirement must arrange to be available during such conditions.

Employment will be contingent upon successfully completing the interview process and required drug test, medical screening, reference check, and driving records check.
