Rice Companies is looking for a Crane Operator to join the team at our Fargo, ND, location. As a Crane Operator, you will be responsible for operating various types of cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment on construction sites.
Position Responsibilities:
Crane Operation (75%)
- Operate cranes to lift, move, and position loads such as structural steel, machinery, and other materials.
- Inspect cranes daily to ensure safe operating conditions, report defects or needed maintenance.
- Inspect clearances, possible obstructions or hazards, and ground conditions to ensure safe set up and operation of crane.
- Calculates load capacity, determining weight of items to be moved in relation to the maximum capacity of crane based on manufacturer's specifications.
- Interpret lift plans, blueprints, and load charts to determine lifting sequences and procedures.
- Perform rigging duties when required, ensuring materials are secured properly.
- Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety.
- Maintain accurate logs of crane operations and inspections.
- Ensure all lifting operations comply with OSHA and site safety standards.
- Collaborate with team members to plan and execute lifts safely.
- Perform minor maintenance or adjustments on cranes as needed.
- Perform other related tasks and duties as required.
- Setting conventional steel
- Installing metal wall and roof panels
- Placing building insulation
- Metal trim and flashing installation.
- Installing metal doors and hardware
- Additional Responsibilities may include some rough carpentry and selective demolition.
- Proven experience as a Crane Operator in the construction industry.
- Valid CCO (or equivalent) crane operator certification for a Telescopic Boom Crane - Swing Cab (TLL).
- Strong knowledge of crane operations, equipment capabilities, load charts, rigging, and lifting techniques.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and safe lifting practices.
- Ability to work at heights and in varied weather conditions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems.
- Strong focus on safety is required.
- Experience with multiple types of cranes (mobile, boom truck etc.).
- Additional certifications in rigging or signaling.
- Familiarity with GPS or computerized (LMI) crane systems.
- Previous experience in commercial steel/metal building erection is strongly preferred.
- Certified operator for a telehandler and MEWP (aerial lift).
- Class A CDL
