Overview
Paraprofessional Intermittent- MSAD at State of Minnesota.
The Minnesota State Academies (MSAD) is seeking substitute paraprofessional staff for the school year to support deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students s is an intermittent substitute position not eligible for benefits.
Responsibilities- This position provides substitute paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at MSAD.
- Under general supervision, contributes to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs to deaf/hard of hearing or deaf/blind students.
- Provides educational instruction and uses a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviors.
Note: Positions at the MN State Academy for the Deaf require American Sign Language (ASL) skills. Candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.
Minimum Qualifications- At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate’s degree; or a passing score on a valid and reliable Paraprofessional/Para educator assessment demonstrating knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
- Knowledge of deaf/hard of hearing and deaf/blind students and their educational practices.
- Skill in writing basic reports, using arithmetic, and reading and interpreting charts and graphs.
- Fluency in American Sign Language.
- Ability to read and write English sufficient to understand policies, procedures, education plans, and to maintain records and documentation.
- Human relations skills sufficient to establish rapport with and provide instruction to students.
- Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.
- Experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
- Demonstration of advanced sign language.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and to sit, stand and walk throughout the day.
- Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.
