Open to employees of Mn State Academies who are in the Special Education Program Assistant (SEPA) classification; other qualified applicants will be considered after bidders have been exhausted.

Responsibilities
  • Provide paraprofessional academic classroom instruction or student management aide support at the Minnesota State Academies.
  • Contribute to the design and delivery of academic instructional programs for deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Provide educational instruction and use a variety of techniques to encourage appropriate behaviours.
  • Perform related work as required.
  • Positions at the State Academy for the Deaf require signing skills; candidates will be assessed for signing skills prior to hire.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota) through an accredited institution of higher education; or an associate’s or higher degree; or a passing score on a valid and reliable formal assessment (Parapro or Para educator) demonstrating the knowledge and ability to assist with instruction in reading/language, writing, mathematics or readiness for each.
  • Knowledge or experience working with students in an educational and/or dorm setting or a similar setting as a caregiver.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge or experience working with deaf/hard of hearing students.
  • Knowledge of data practices as it relates to work in the social/human services field.
  • Demonstration of advanced sign language.
  • Ability to perform emergency procedures and personal safety techniques.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance) and be able to sit, stand and walk throughout the day.
Additional Requirements
  • Employment is contingent upon a successful criminal background check within the past 12 months.
