Faribault, MN — Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM with rotational weekends

Job Description

The Phlebotomy Technician is responsible for accurately performing and processing point‑of‑care testing (POC) and venous & capillary blood collection from adults, infants, and children, and all related functions.

Pay and Benefits

Pay range: $23.00 – $28.00 per hour.
Shift differentials of 10% (second shift) and 15% (third shift) may apply. Annual performance bonus compensation may be eligible.

Responsibilities
  • Collect blood and/or perform POC as assigned
  • Cleans and re‑stocks POC supplies and prepares phlebotomy carts/trays.
  • Assists coworkers with draws and POC testing.
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from newborn through geriatric patients using proper aseptic collection techniques.
  • Draws and delivers (where applicable) all blood work within established departmental policy time frames.
  • Draws venous and capillary blood into proper tubes and culture vials according to the purpose for which the blood is to be tested.
  • Performs and processes all POC tests on patients ranging from newborn to geriatrics.
  • Completes clerical functions associated with POC testing documents.
  • Reports incidents/issues regarding patients or employees in a timely manner to group leader or supervisor.
  • Reports supply needs and equipment defects in a timely fashion.
  • Logs refrigerator temperatures daily and reports if they fall out of range.
  • Travels and performs phlebotomy duties and POC testing at health fair and PSA testing sites, delivering specimens to laboratory.
  • Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care specific to those needs (e.g., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired).
  • Communicates with patients, parents, and/or primary caregivers at their level of development or literacy.
  • Adheres to standards identified in the clinic’s organizational competencies.
  • Maintains regular contact with clinic personnel, patients, and visitors.
Qualifications

Physical Requirements
  • Lift light to moderately heavy objects ({1–15 lb} frequently; {16–25 lb} occasionally; {26–40 lb} seldom; above 41 lb requires assistance).
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time; requires long hours of eye and hand coordination.
  • Must perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently throughout the day.
  • Position requires travel.
  • Extensive use of phone and PC.
  • Fine dexterity with hands/steadiness.
  • Talking, walking, balancing, bending/kneeling, pushing/pulling, reaching/twisting.
Knowledge, Education and Skills Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred; required in California, Nevada, and Washington.
