The Mayo Clinic John E Herman Home and Treatment Center is a residential treatment program for adults with serious persistent mental illness (SPMI). The program is organized around functional and vocational recovery.
Treatments include group and individual therapy, medication management based on cognitive and behavioral principles, medication management, vocational program, and milieu-based activities to help residents engage in a productive and value-driven life.
The Psychiatric Technician isanintegralmemberofthepsychiatric residential, hospital-based psych emergency services team and participates in both direct and indirect patient care for adults and children. At the direction of a registered nursethe
Psychiatric Technician promotesinvolvementinthetreatment program. Psychiatric Technicians assist residents in various social, clinical, nutritional, and observational activities to ensure optimal patient outcomes and a safe patient milieu. The Psychiatric Technician role plays a crucial role in ongoing safety observation, assessment of the milieu and identification of escalation of concerning behaviors. The Psychiatric Technician plays a key role in leading social activities, games and crafts that promote patients to engage in milieu and practice therapy concepts they are learning within individualized care plans.
High school graduate or equivalent. At least 21 years of age.
Additional Qualifications:
Experienceinapsychiatrichospitalsettingasamentalhealthor behavioral assistant working with adults and or children
-OR- completion of 12 college credits preferred.
Experience with 24/7 residential programs or psychiatry & psychology-based programs preferred.
Basic skills in cleaning, cooking, and meal preparation. Demonstrated ability to work with diversepopulationsinstressfulandambiguous situations.
Basiccomputerandkeyboarding competencewiththeabilitytouse
Microsoftofficesuiteandorcompetencywithelectronic clinic documentation. Demonstrates ability to multi-task under stressful situations. Demonstrates ability to communicate, collaborate and manage relationships with interdisciplinary members while maintaining patient/family centeredness and safety in a timely, efficient, andequitablemanner.
Other required training (first aid, food safe, comorbid disorders, trauma informed care is offered after hire and must be completed within first 90 days of employment.
As a condition of employment, individuals working with addictions services must be free from problematic substance use for a minimum of the immediately preceding two years at time of hire.

License and
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license, and acceptable driving record as defined by policy.
If a candidate does not currently have their Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs:
American Heart Association or American Red Cross the Basic Life Support, certification will be included as part of the orientation program. Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs:
American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
