The Office of State Parks (OSP) serves the citizens of Louisiana and visitors by preserving and interpreting natural areas of unique or exceptional scenic value, planning, developing and operating sites that provide outdoor recreation opportunities in natural surroundings, preserving and interpreting historical and scientific sites of statewide importance and administering intergovernmental programs related to outdoor recreation and trails.
This position is located at Lake D'Arbonne State Park in Farmerville, LA. The purpose of this position is to enforce all applicable laws in a state park and to educate the public on their role in the protection of natural resources, cultural, and historic resources.
No experience or training is required.
Special Requirements- An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by State and Federal laws is granted.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
- Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
- This position may require the incumbent to handle and carry firearms.
- Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- Protect park visitors by enforcing federal, state, and local laws and park rules and regulations.
- Perform emergency duties to protect human life, government property, and natural features of the site.
- Investigate incidents and/or complaints such as, but not limited to, vehicular, vandalism, accidents, trespassing, and search/rescue that occur within the park boundaries.
- Work with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies and district attorneys in the arrest and prosecution of individuals.
- Provide security by patrolling and inspecting the site by vehicle, foot patrol, bicycle, and boat.
- Assist overnight guests during their stay by performing customer service duties.
- Provide tourism information and local directions to the park visitors, and disseminate other information as requested.
- Perform maintenance, custodial, inspections, and/or fee collection tasks as needed.
- Prepare and maintain incident reports, recordings, etc. associated with law enforcement duties.
- Participate and successfully complete all required training by the Office of State Parks (OSP). The training includes POST Council Certification annually, annual certification in First-Aid/CPR, and other certifications as designated by the OSP.
- Work special details/events within the Office of State Parks in conjunction with federal, state, and local agencies that include inaugural events, search and rescue activities, parking details, specialized enforcement tasks, disaster assistance, and working special events at parks such as reenactments, grand openings, day-in-the-park events, school day events, etc.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Park Ranger 1 or 2, depending on experience. As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled based on the qualifications of the selected applicant. Please refer to the Class Specifications page for specific information of salary ranges, minimum qualifications and job concepts for each level.
Work Schedule: State Parks are open 365 days a year. Position will work a rotating schedule of 40 hours/week, that can include holidays and/or weekends as needed, to ensure coverage at the park.
Travel: Position requires driving around the park for patrol as part of the daily shift. Travel may be required to other state parks to assist in staffing or events, as needed. A state vehicle is available for employee use while on duty.
Compensation: Minimum $17.36/hr. (compensation offered will be dependent on level of experience and certification)
