The Export Control Classification Specialist will be responsible for ensuring compliance with national export‑control regulations by accurately classifying hardware, software, and technology for export purposes. This role requires detailed knowledge of export classification to support organizational adherence to global trade regulations. The specialist will collaborate across divisions to maintain accurate and current classification data and provide critical support for export licensing and tariff‑related processes to the export control manager organization.
ExportControl Classification
- Perform export control classification for hardware, software, and technology in accordance with applicable regulations, including EAR (Export Administration Regulations) and ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations).
- Manage U.S. re‑export compliance tasks, ensuring adherence to applicable laws when technology or products are transferred internationally.
- Continuously monitor changes in export control legislation and update classification data to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Escalate complex or unclear classification requests to appropriate senior personnel or regulatory authorities.
- Classify Bosch materials for all divisions within Robert Bosch under the appropriate tariff codes based on product specifications and international trade requirements.
- Process and respond to requests and communications related to tariff classification, including the creation of reference documents (reasoning).
- Perform quality checks on tariff codes to verify accuracy and compliance with applicable customs regulations.
- Escalate any tariff classification issues requiring higher‑level review or intervention.
- Bachelor’s degree in International Business, International Trade or Business related with 3+ years export control classification or related experience OR Associate’s degree with 5+ years export control classification or related experience
- Proven experience in export control classification, preferably within a manufacturing or technology environment.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (EAR, ITAR) and international trade compliance.
- Experience with tariff code classification and customs regulations.
- Skilled in assessing product check frequency and understanding software encryption controls.
- Proficient or willing to be trained in SAP platforms, specifically SAP GTS (Global Trade Service), SAP ERP R/3, and S/4.
- Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of clearly explaining complex regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently and elevate issues appropriately.
- Willingness to work onsite in Farmington Hills, MI.

The U.S. base salary range for this full‑time position is between $95,000 and $115,000, with individual pay determined based on experience, job knowledge, complexity of the role, and location.
