Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Farmington Hills, MI
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, weekends as needed
Pay: $26.32 per hour + possible shift differentials (10% second shift, 15% third shift) and annual performance bonuses.

Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate proficiency in all testing areas and troubleshoot instruments and procedures in the department.
- Support quality control, instrument maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects.
- Perform and report assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs and quality control requirements.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory policies for specimen handling, test analysis, and result reporting.
- Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STAT or critical results to clients.
- Maintain reagent/test kit inventories and document QC analyses.
- Inform supervisory personnel of any problems affecting test procedures.
- Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for physician review.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate.
- Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel as needed.
- Adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use personal protective equipment and engineering/work practice controls as directed.
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel.
- Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections.
- Assume lead responsibilities if qualified and delegated in absence of a supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- One (1) year full‑time experience or training in high‑complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting.
- Minimum 3 years of clinical experience with present department in the most recent year.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
- Lifting/carrying objects 1–10 pounds frequently; 11–25 pounds occasionally; 36–50 pounds seldom; >50 pounds with assistance.
- Can stand and work at bench for long periods; frequent walking and standing.
- Can use manual and automated pipettes and instruments that demand significant manual dexterity.
Knowledge:
- Comprehensive job knowledge in designated specialty.
- Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures.
- BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry or Biology, or Associates in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or eligible under 42 CFR 493.
- Foreign candidates require credential evaluation from IERF; US candidates require original transcripts.
Skills:
- Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills.
- Detail‑oriented, independent, able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Interpersonal skills to interact with supervisors, coworkers, and clients.
- Communication skills for telephone inquiries.
- Confidential handling of client information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
Education:
- BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology; or Associates in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or qualified under 42 CFR 493.
License/Certificate:
- ASCP Certification (preferred)
