  • General Description: The Elementary School Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction and classroom management for students in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher ensures a productive learning environment, follows lesson plans, and adapts instruction to meet the needs of students.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Follow lesson plans provided by the regular classroom teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.
    • Manage the classroom by maintaining student behavior and enforcing school rules and policies.
    • Deliver instructional material in a clear, engaging, and effective manner.
    • Provide supervision for students during lunch, recess, and other non-instructional times as needed.
    • Address and support the individual needs of students, providing additional guidance or assistance when necessary.
    • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents when necessary.
    • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
    • Report any issues or concerns to the regular teacher or principal.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree preferred
    • Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting is a plus.
    • Ability to manage a classroom and adapt to a variety of teaching situations.
    • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
    • Patience, flexibility, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
    • Knowledge of basic educational principles and practices.

    Application Procedure:
    Apply online and submit 3 letters of reference and copies of college transcripts. If hired, you must be fingerprinted within 30 days. Candidates with State of CT Teacher Certification preferred.
