  • Union Elementary is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional.
    Position is 6.5 hours per day, school year.
    Position includes 8 paid holidays, 12 sick days, 3 personal days. Eligible for health insurance, $30,000 life insurance, and long-term disability.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    A. Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or its equivalent (i.e., Para Professional Assessment). Bachelor's degree preferred.

    B. Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.

    C. Consideration will be given to:

    1. Ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form.

    2. Various life/work experiences that contribute to the candidate's overall preparedness. Prior experience working with school-age children is a plus.

    REPORTS TO:

    Classroom Teacher and School Principal

    SALARY:
    Starting at $24.18 per hour (per FPSEU contract)

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    The Special Service Paraprofessional will provide personal care/hygiene (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assist with medication regimens. The paraprofessional may also provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support, including carrying out teacher-prepared lesson plans, supervising activities, assisting in material preparation, and recording student progress. The position requires a cooperative working relationship with teachers.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Supporting Instruction

  • Tutoring/One-on-one instruction
  • Circulating in class
  • Helping group instruction
  • Modifying instructional materials
  • Assisting students with technology
  • Assisting students with tests and assessments
  • Documentation and Data

  • Observing and collecting data on students
  • Organizing data, graphs
  • Recording student progress, including data
  • Taking classroom notes (contents, etc.)
  • Taking attendance
  • Student Management

  • Providing personal care/hygiene (lifting and toileting)
  • Assisting with medication regimen
  • Monitoring hallways, study halls
  • Maintaining on-task behavior
  • Correcting minor behavioral problems
  • Escorting students to other classes
  • Clerical

  • Scheduling activities
  • Copying, stapling, etc.
