West Woods Upper Elementary Collaborative Preschool - Paraprofessional

Position is 6.5 hours per day, Monday-Thursday, in the WWUES Collaborative Preschool. May work 1:1 with a student. Benefits include three personal days, five sick days, four paid holidays, life insurance and long-term disability insurance.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Candidate should hold an Associate's degree or 2 years of college diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Candidate should demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain a good rapport with students and possess a personable relationship with teachers.
  • Consideration will be given to the ability to carry out directions in both oral and written form, various life/work experiences that contribute to overall preparedness, and prior experience working with school age children.

SALARY

$24.18 - $28.26 per hour per union contract based upon experience.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Special Service Paraprofessional will provide personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting up to 50 pounds and toileting) and assist with medicine regimen. The paraprofessional may also provide a variety of instructional services and classroom support to staff and students. This includes carrying out teacher prepared lesson plans and supervising teacher-planned activities, assisting in the preparation of materials for instruction, and recording individual progress of students.

This position exhibits a cooperative working relationship with teachers. Experience working with students on the autism spectrum preferred.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supporting Instruction
  • Tutoring/One-on-one instruction
  • Circulating in class
  • Helping group instruction
  • Modifying instructional materials
  • Assisting students with technology
  • Assisting students with tests and assessments
Documentation and Data
  • Observing and collecting data on students
  • Organizing data, graphs
  • Recording student progress – including data
  • Taking classroom notes – contents, etc.
  • Taking attendance
Student Management
  • Provides personal care/hygiene (i.e. lifting and toileting)
  • Assists with medicine regimen
  • Monitors hallways, study halls
  • Maintains on-task behavior
  • Corrects minor behavioral problems
  • Escorts students to other classes
Clerical
  • Scheduling activities
  • Copying, stapling, etc.
  • Operates media
  • Maintains equipment

    Runs errands
Other
  • Handling records in a confidential manner
  • Performs related duties as assigned
