D.Director of Finance and Administration School of Dental Medicine Reporting to the Dean of the School of Dental Medicine and collaborating with the UConn Health Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Finance and Administration provides strategic leadership and oversight of all financial functions of the School of Dental Medicine. The position leads the development, execution, and monitoring of the School's budget and is responsible for managing complex financial operations across multiple funding sources while ensuring full compliance with university policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, and best practices in financial stewardship.
This position also supports key administrative functions related to financial planning, personnel management and budgeting, and fiscal strategy in support of the School's departments and administrative units.
Duties and Responsibilities Lead the development, management, and oversight of the School of Dental Medicine's operating budget.
Oversee the annual revenue and expense budgets of the academic and clinical areas of the School.
Monitor, analyze, and report on financial performance, including revenue, expenditures, and projections.
Manage and guide financial and administrative support to enable faculty, school, and program leadership to focus on programmatic excellence and work within available resources to advance the mission of the School.
Assess operational challenges and opportunities across the School's units and develop and implement solutions with the Dean and others, as appropriate.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual budget reports, forecasts, and financial analyses, including, but not limited to, month-end reporting.
Provide financial information and analyses to School and institutional partners to monitor and evaluate performance against budget and recommend adjustments based on analyses.
Identify available financial resources and make recommendations on how to deploy them efficiently to support institutional objectives.
Manage and reconcile multiple ledger accounts across multiple funding sources, including health center, university, foundation, and research funding, ensuring effective allocation of resources.
Develop financial models and long-range forecasts to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Oversee financial transactions, including revenue, expense, and procurement activity.
Collaborate with health center financial offices and internal and external partners, as needed.
Provide financial analysis and guidance related to personnel management.
Serve as the School's primary point of contact with service providers, including, but not limited to, Human Resources, Facilities, Procurement, and Information Technology, ensuring the adequacy and appropriateness of services.
Work with the Research Office to ensure the proper management and reporting of research awards in accordance with university and sponsor guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Use discretion and independent judgment to ensure that faculty, students, residents, and staff receive high-quality administrative support in a manner compliant with university and health center policies and procedures.
Prepare data and reports for accrediting bodies.
Oversee and facilitate contracts, memoranda of understanding/agreement, and special reports.
Conduct analyses of tuition and fees, including benchmarking data, to support recommendations to the School, Board of Directors, and Board of Trustees.
Implement and maintain strong internal controls in areas of assigned responsibility to provide reasonable assurance of effective and appropriate resource use, accurate financial information, and adherence to contractual obligations, agreements, policies, procedures, and external regulatory requirements. Implement corrective actions to protect the School of Dental Medicine's assets, resources, information, and reputation.
Identify, communicate, and address issues and concerns in a manner that ensures all members of the School community are knowledgeable about regulations, policies, procedures, and requirements as they pertain to their scope of activity.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree and six years of related work experience, including demonstrated leadership, project management, and financial experience.
