Lead Nurse - Ambulatory Surgery Center - 40hr

OverviewUnder general supervision, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities and unit operations of the ambulatory surgery center, ensures adherence to organizational and unit policies and procedures, and accepted nursing protocols and procedures. Collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care. Reports to ASC Administrator.
Responsibilities- UNIT LEADERSHIP:
Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day activities and unit operations of the surgery center. - Ensures adequate staffing levels by supporting staff to make appropriate decisions; understands and considers both unit and organizational staffing resource needs, and appropriately allocates/assigns staffing resources based on those needs.
- Facilitates teamwork and cooperation among staff, follows up and resolves routine employee relations issues, seeking support from Nurse Manager for more complex issues.
- Participates in the selection, hiring and orientation process for unit staff; partners with nurse manager in performance management processes, facilitates off-shift staff meetings, identifies shift equipment, supply and service issues, and communicates with appropriate personnel to resolve resource issues.
- Participates in administrative activities such as development, implementation, and enforcement of unit policies and procedures; follows up on occurrence reports.
- Drives success within the team to achieve unit and department scorecard goals.
- CLINICAL PRACTICE:
Provides direct clinical care as needed; delivers safe, appropriate patient care to a defined patient population according to Connecticut Children’s and department policies and standards. - Coordinates with the unit-based clinical nurse education liaison to ensure staff education on new treatment modalities and care for new patient populations.
- Facilitates teamwork among department staff and between departments to ensure seamless service and optimal care for patients and families.
- MULTI-DISCIPLINARY
COLLABORATION:
Demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with all health care team members; develops or assists others in developing comprehensive care plans that recognize multidisciplinary contributions.
- DOCUMENTATION:
Conducts chart reviews and ensures ongoing readiness for regulatory purposes; completes required documentation in a timely manner per CCMC policies and standards; communicates necessary information to the health care team; provides feedback on unit documentation compliance.
- PATIENT / FAMILY PARTNERSHIP AND
EDUCATION:
Conducts daily rounds to address routine patient/staff issues; partners with patients and families to evaluate outcomes and provides education regarding all aspects of care per CCMC policies and standards.
- QUALITY IMPROVEMENT:
Leads unit-based quality improvement activities; collaborates in policy development and implementation; identifies clinical issues and promotes quality improvement and/or research to improve patient care.
- POPULATION-SPECIFIC:
Demonstrates knowledge of differences across neonatal to adolescent populations and applies culturally sensitive care; works with management to address population-specific needs.
- Collaborates with physicians to maximize quality, safety and service in defined specialties.
- Facilitates evidence-based practice and plans for resource needs with physicians; maintains proactive customer service attitude; ensures adequate resources for upcoming cases.
- Resolves conflicts before surgery and communicates with Central Sterile Department on instrument quality and availability.
Collaborates with ASC Administrator, Education Support and physician leaders to manage clinical and non-clinical staff.
Qualifications Education- BSN required or must obtain a BSN within 3 years of hire.
- ASC experience preferred.
- Leadership experience strongly preferred.
