Position OverviewCorporate Controller
Dakota Electric Association is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Corporate Controller to oversee our accounting, financial reporting, and payroll operations. As a key member of our Financial Services team, you will ensure compliance with internal policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements, while supporting the financial health of our cooperative.
Responsibilities- Lead the preparation of accurate monthly and annual financial statements and manage the annual audit process.
- Maintain effective internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and industry standards.
- Oversee payroll operations and coordinate with HR and financial planning teams.
- Manage capital credit allocation and retirement processes, as well as all tax-related activities.
- Administer financial accounting software and ensure alignment with other business systems.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, fostering growth and high performance.
- Collaborate across departments to support organizational goals and financial alignment.

- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- Ten years of progressive experience in accounting
- Five years of leading an accounting department
- A CPA, CMA, or MBA is strongly preferred.
- Experience in the utility industry, particularly with an electric distribution cooperative, is strongly preferred, along with knowledge of utility plant accounting, capital credits, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
- Payroll administration and reporting knowledge is preferred.
