FIREARM ENGINEERS
Position Summary:
Thompson/Center Arms, “America’s Master Gunmaker” for over 60 years, is seeking skilled and passionate Firearms Engineers to join our innovative product development and manufacturing team. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing firearms and related components, ensuring the highest levels of performance, reliability, and safety. The Firearms Engineer will play a key role in advancing new product lines, refining existing platforms, and supporting continuous improvement in manufacturing processes.
Key
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish, troubleshoot, and improve firearms manufacturing processes to optimize quality and throughput.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings for new and existing product lines.
- Work cross-functionally with Design, Quality, Supply Chain, and Operations to achieve cost, quality, and launch goals.
- Collaborate with Quality Engineering to create process sheets, control plans, and inspection criteria.
- Identify and recommend process improvements and new technologies that reduce cost and improve production efficiency.
- Partner with suppliers to review design-for-manufacturability and implement improvements in component sourcing.
- Lead the design and development of tooling, fixtures, and gauging to support precision manufacturing.
- Conduct root cause and corrective action analysis using 8D methodologies for process or field failures.
- Program and support CNC machining operations to validate new product designs and process changes.
- Participate in design reviews, prototype evaluations, and validation testing to ensure firearms meet T/C’s standards of excellence.
Education, Skills, and
Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Firearms Engineering; 5+ years of related experience in a firearms or precision manufacturing environment preferred.
- Proficiency in SOLIDWORKS, CAD/CAM, and PDM software, as well as Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong knowledge of material sciences, GD&T, and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Experience managing multiple projects with competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated ability to document and maintain control plans, Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), and design standards.
- Proven analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills with a focus on practical results.
- Previous experience in product design, prototyping, and launch support preferred.
Working Conditions:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a computer workstation performing design and documentation tasks.
- Occasional standing, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs. in a manufacturing or test environment.
- Must wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required.
- Occasional travel between T/C facilities and supplier sites may be required.
