Davis School District Seeks a Full-time Teacher Of The Visually Impaired (TVI) in Farmington, Utah.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the specialized instruction and services required to meet the unique educational needs of visually impaired students as indicated in the Expanded Core Curriculum for Students with Visual Impairments, in the following areas:
    Compensatory skills;
    Orientation and mobility (separation education and/or certification required);
    Assistive technology;
    Recreation and leisure;
    Independent living skills;
    Career.
  • Assist the student, parents, special and regular education personnel, and the students sighted peers in understanding the unique educational needs and learning characteristics of visually impaired students, becoming aware of services and support available from local programs for visually impaired students, acquiring information regarding local, state, and national resources for the education of visually impaired students, and interpreting the visually impaired student’s specific eye condition, the educational implications of the visual impairment, and the results of functional vision and learning media assessments.
  • Consult regularly with the classroom teacher, other regular and special education personnel, parents, and others to coordinate programs and services for the visually impaired student.
  • Assist the site administrator and teachers in making environmental adjustments for the student in the school.
  • Share responsibility with classroom teachers in the identification of instructional areas in which the student requires assistance.
  • Ensure that large‑type or braille texts, supplementary materials, educational aids, and equipment needed by the visually impaired student and the classroom teacher are provided in a timely manner to ensure the student’s maximum participation in all classroom activities.
  • Provide instruction in the development and maintenance of skills to meet the student’s unique educational needs in the following areas, as indicated in the IEP: low‑vision and visual‑efficiency skills; concept development and academic skills; daily living skills; career and vocational‑education skills; communication skills (including braille reading and writing as appropriate); and social/emotional skills and abilities, and sensory‑motor skills.
  • Prepare sequential and meaningful instruction geared to the student’s assessed needs, IEP goals and objectives, functioning, and motivational levels, reflected in weekly or monthly lesson plans.
  • Provide assistance to the classroom teacher in academic subjects and activities that, as a direct result of the student’s visual impairment, require adaptation.
  • Provide initial and ongoing assessment: consult with the assessment team to determine appropriate testing materials and modifications needed and assist with assessments, interpreting results when needed.
  • Conduct functional vision/learning media assessments and produce written reports.
  • Attend IEP meetings for students with visual impairments.
  • Maintain ongoing contact with parents to assist them in developing a realistic understanding of their child’s abilities, progress, and future goals.
  • Provide information/support for school personnel and students, and education for parents regarding the needs of visually impaired students, adaptations, programs, and services for these students.
  • This position is required to work with students in any of the schools located in the Davis School District, all of which are located in multiple cities and towns within Davis County, Utah. Frequent travel to and between schools to perform the job duties is required.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.
  • License:
    Hold a valid educator license, with Blind and Visually Impaired professional endorsement, issued by the Utah State Board of Education.
