Emergency Communications Operator | Full-TimeFarmville - Prince Edward Emergency Communications is now accepting applications for full-time Emergency Communications Operators. We are looking to fill several positions with motivated individuals, with or without prior experience. This is an exciting opportunity to join our growing Emergency Communications department, where we take pride in delivering high-quality emergency services.
Qualified applicants must have a high school diploma or GED and either hold or be able to obtain a Tele-Communicator Certification from the Department of Criminal Justice Services within 12 months of hire. Additionally, the applicant must either already hold or be able to obtain the following within 6 months of hire:
- Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification
- VCIN Full Access Certificate, as required by the Virginia Department of State Police
- IS 100, 200, & 700 National Incident Management System (NIMS) Training
This position performs responsible tasks associated with initiating emergency responses to include answering emergency and non-emergency calls, providing life-saving instructions, dispatching public safety personnel, responding to general requests for assistance and information, while maintaining records for the administration of public safety.
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Receive emergency and non-emergency calls from the public requesting police, fire, ambulance, or other public safety services; determine nature and location of emergency, determine priority and dispatch emergency services as needed in accordance with established procedures.
- Obtain relevant information in emergency situations to make critical decisions quickly and effectively.
- Under general supervision learn to operate and use standard radio and telephone equipment.
- Operate a sophisticated Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system, effectively entering calls for service information system accurately and rapidly.
- Retain and use geographic features and streets with the area served to include mapping system.
- Receiving, evaluating, prioritizing, and relaying emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance.
- Operates VCIN/NCIC databases to retrieve and disseminate information necessary to conduct Public Safety operations.
- Monitor primary and secondary police frequencies and emergency frequencies.
- Performs general office duties, to include faxing, copying, filing, shredding, and email correspondence.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
The hiring range for this position is $37,083 to 42,000 annually dependent upon qualifications.
