Longwood University invites qualified applicants to apply for the position of Part-Time Police Accreditation Manager / Law Enforcement Officer I (T0250) in the Department of Police and Public Safety. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with proven management skills. The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining all records related to the department's accreditation process with the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission (VLEPSC).
Also, the selected candidate will coordinate with command staff to develop, revise, and provide guidance on department policies and procedures to ensure compliance with current law and accreditation standards, while also fostering working relationships with outside agency accreditation staff. Assignment to sworn or non-sworn status will be determined in accordance with operational and departmental considerations. This position is located in Farmville, Virginia, and is required to work in person on Longwood University's campus.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Input information into a document management system; create files, records, and other documentation
- Provide guidance on department policies, procedures, and training
- Interpret accreditation standards and applicable laws
- Conduct inspections and audits, or ensure that such are conducted, to ensure proper procedures are followed
- Serve as an accreditation assessor and perform relevant duties
- Work effectively with other department and university employees to gather necessary documentation
- Work effectively while being courteous with both the public and department members
- Type form letters and reports
- Read, send, and respond to emails while navigating the internet and local intranet.
- Manage the department's staff monthly policy review process.
- Perform other duties as assigned
- High school diploma; a bachelor's degree is preferred
- The ideal candidate will have extensive experience within a law enforcement agency and prior participation in that agency's accreditation process, ideally with VLEPSC
- Possess, or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Virginia driver's license with a satisfactory driving record in order to drive university vehicles
- Knowledge of law enforcement operations, legal concepts, data entry, and computerized record management systems
- Ability to operate general office equipment, which includes, but is not limited to, personal computers, scanners, printers, and copiers
- Proficient with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software
- Ability to perform work independently while prioritizing job needs in order to meet deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Adhere to the confidentiality required by codes, laws, regulations, and policies while accessing information
- Employment in this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a drug screening and a comprehensive background investigation
- Psychological and physical tests may be required at the discretion of the Chief of Police
- Certification as a Virginia law enforcement officer is not required but is highly preferred
