Inspire People are seeking an experienced Support Engineer to join a rapidly growing engineering team in Farnborough, delivering secure digital solutions across the UK Defense sector. You will provide 1st and 2nd line support across highly secure environments, helping ensure critical systems remain operational for mission-critical users.
Permanent or contract basis, with a salary of up to £40,000 plus benefits. The position requires five days per week onsite in Farnborough.
Candidates must hold an active SC or DV clearance.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong Microsoft technologies experience who enjoys troubleshooting technical issues and wants to work on projects with genuine operational impact.
About the 1st/2nd Support EngineerAs a Support Engineer, you'll play a key role in supporting secure IT environments used within Defense and Security. Working alongside infrastructure engineers, architects and technical specialists, you'll provide responsive technical support, maintain end-user services, and help ensure the reliability and security of mission-critical systems.
You'll be responsible for resolving technical issues, supporting users both remotely and onsite, maintaining accurate documentation, and escalating complex incidents where appropriate.
Occasional travel to customer sites may be required.
Responsibilities of the 1st/2nd Support Engineer- Provide 1st and 2nd line technical support across secure environments.
- Respond to support tickets, ensuring timely resolution and regular communication with users.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software and infrastructure issues, escalating complex problems to 3rd line support when required.
- Provision end-user devices and onboard new users.
- Administer Microsoft 365, Windows, Azure/Entra Active Directory environments.
- Monitor system alerts, triage incidents and elevate where necessary.
- Communicate planned maintenance and service incidents to the user community.
- Maintain accurate ticket updates and contribute to the knowledge base.
- Assist with maintaining secure, reliable IT services within highly regulated environments.
- Travel to remote customer locations on occasion where required.
- Windows 10/11 administration
- Microsoft 365 administration
- Running of Power Shell scripts
- End User Device provisioning, onboarding of users
- Understanding of security concepts (MFA, Conditional Access)
- Atlassian suite of ITSM equivalent tooling
- Linux exposure (Ubuntu, CentOS)
Must hold, or be eligible to work within, the highest level of UK Security Clearance. - Windows Server support and administration
- Understanding of Group Policy (creation and troubleshooting)
- Writing of Power Shell scripts
