Overview

Assist the department manager in reaching sales and profit goals for the department and monitor quality assurance standards. Responsibilities- Grocery Clerk (Bakery/Deli) will prepare items per customer requests using proper bakery equipment.
- Offer product samples to help customers discover new items or products they inquire about.
- Inform customers of bakery and/or deli specials.
- Provide customers with fresh products in the correct portion size to prevent shrink.
- Recommend deli or bakery items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
- Use all equipment in bakery (refrigerators, freezers, slicers, ovens) according to company guidelines.
- Prepare foods according to food temperature logs and follow cooking instructions.
- Measure, prepare and mix ingredients according to recipe with appropriate utensils and equipment.
- Adequately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients.
- Check product quality for freshness; review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
- Operate kitchen equipment (stove, computerized scale, fryer, steamer, robot coupe, etc.).
- Label, stock and inventory department merchandise.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Understand store layout and locate products on request.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
- Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department; respond to questions and make suggestions.
- Maintain awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note discrepancies.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers and maintain temperature logs.
- Promote trust and respect among associates; create an environment where customers feel welcome and appreciated by answering product questions.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs; identify unsafe conditions and notify management.
- Inspect equipment and notify management of items in need of repair.
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment; manage conflict calmly and constructively.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information; follow directions and seek assistance as needed.
- Provide support through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
